Welcome to my studio. Behind the purple front door is a magical place filled with creativity.

In 1987 I purchased a small house in Rock Hill, SC with the intention of using the front two rooms as my studio and renting the bedrooms to college students. It has been a wonderful arrangement. It has provided me with a private place to create my art and has created many lasting friendships with young adults who are in the process of creating their own futures through education.

“Eleven thirty four,” the affectionate name given to my studio by the students who have lived at 1134 Charlotte Avenue, is an active gathering place. Through the years it has hosted groups interested in dreams, meditation, and creativity, in addition to classes for other quilters. Students from the local university have come with their classmates to discuss creative process and several have stayed as interns.

Every week, a small group of women gather in my studio to brainstorm ways to celebrate women and creativity. These are the volunteers for “Piecing a Quilt of Life,” a project I began in 1996. Through their support we have curated six art quilt exhibits, co-produced an educational television program on creativity after the age of fifty, and created a web-site. They also edited and critiqued my CD book, “Lives in Process: Creativity in the Second Fifty Years,” in addition to listening and offering feedback on the classes and lectures I give to groups across the country and abroad.

I hope you enjoy my studio tour.
